A rare Nash 450 returns to the motor show

For many, a classic car is a passion project. But for Steve Nash, it feels like fate.

Growing up, Steve was always drawn to Nash Motors – a company that happened to share his last name. He dreamed of owning one of these rare classics, and last year, that dream became a reality when he spotted a 1930 Nash 450 for sale in Geelong. Just six days later, after a whirlwind trip home to Tassie, he rolled into the 2024 Devonport Motor Show as a last-minute entrant.

Built by Nash Motors, a company known for delivering luxury beyond the price tag, the 450 was an upscale alternative to Ford and Chevrolet models of the time. With silver-plated door handles, plush velour seats, and even optional flower vases in the back, Nash’s slogan was simple: “Give the customer more than he has paid for”.

While exact production numbers are unclear, fewer than 100 Nash 450s are believed to remain worldwide. Only 21 are registered with the Nash Club of America, and this may be the only one left in Australia.

But owning a rare car comes with challenges – especially when it comes to restoration. Tracking down original parts can take years, and this Nash is still very much a work in progress. From sourcing missing trim pieces to restoring the interior, the road to completion will take time. Even finding an engine fan took months, but Steve eventually found a surprising match in a Launceston tractor parts store.

Despite the work ahead, this Nash 450 is still 95% original and turns heads wherever it goes. While a full restoration could take another 5-10 years, Steve is committed to the journey – piece by piece, with patience and a bit of luck.

Want to see this rare beauty up close?

Catch it at the 2025 SeaRoad Devonport Motor Show, where it’ll proudly represent this year’s Vintage and Veteran theme.

Team Twoheadedtasmanians take on Shitbox Rally 2025

Shitbox Rally isn’t a race – it’s a test of endurance, teamwork, and determination. The challenge? Driving a car worth just $1,500 across some of Australia’s toughest and most remote roads, all in the name of charity.

This year, the adventurous Team Twoheadedtasmanians is taking on the Winter 2025 rally, covering 4,500km from Perth to Darwin alongside 500 other participants.

And it’s all for a cause that matters. Since 2009, the Shitbox Rally has raised over $52 million for Cancer Council Australia, making it the country’s largest private fundraiser for cancer research.

Want to support the cause? Get involved or donate here.
