Devonport Motor Show 2022 |
UNDER A MONTH TO GO! Excitement is building as we count down to the 2022 Searoad Devonport Motor Show! Thank you to close the more than 300 people who have pre-entered a vehicle to date. For those who haven’t entered yet – what are you waiting for?! Simply log onto https://devonportmotorshow.com.au/entryform/ and complete your details. This entitles you – and one passenger – to free entry on the day. Pre-entries close on 20 March. You can still enter on the day, but will need to pay a $10 entry fee (for each person in the vehicle) – unless they are student cardholders or under 16. Those who pre-enter prior to 20 March will receive an email advising their vehicle number and directions for arrival on the day. Scroll down to check out some of the entries we’ve received for this year’s show to date! Like the Rare 1931 AJS S3 lay hidden inside a wall for 70 years! If you are wondering why the 1931 AJS S3 on display at this year’s Searoad Devonport Motor Show is looking so pristine, it’s because it spent 70 years living inside a wall! Upon original purchase, this bike found its way to the Baltic country, just before it was annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940. The owner hid his precious bike by bricking it into a false wall in his house. The bike stayed behind that wall during the subsequent German invasion and consequent communist control and remained there until the country finally gained independence in 1991. By that time – not surprisingly – the bike had been forgotten about. What a magnificent discovery it must have been when this bike was finally re-discovered seven decades later when the false wall was pulled down. In a lucky twist of fate, a Tasmanian man was travelling through western Europe when the bike was put up for sale by its discoverer. It now lives in Hobart – and has not required any restoration due to the protection offered during its time inside the wall! Built as a luxury tourer to reinvigorate sales during the depression years, the AJS S3 was an innovative and bold design. Rex’s more than just a car to Jaimi-Leigh. When Launceston’s Jaimi-Leigh Harper purchased her 2009 Subaru WRX in 2020, it marked a turning point in her life. Having battled depression and anxiety in recent years, her new car – nicknamed ‘Rex’ provided Jaimi-Leigh the distraction and focus she needed to regain her mental health.”Rex is more than a car to me,” Jaimi-Leigh said.”She has helped me a lot with my mental health.”I was able to use the distraction of working on my car to slowly work my way out of that state of mind. It’s been quite a journey, but has helped so much with my confidence,” Jaimi-Leigh said.”I love cars and have always had a passion, but this has especially ramped up since owning my Subie. Another Causley Classic – 1976 Holden HX SandmanNathan Causley is renowned across Tasmania for his meticulous restoration of vehicles, and this 1976 Holden HX Sandman is another exceptional example of his work. Taking four years to restore, the Sandman has been restored to full original, other than the wheels, exhaust and quad light (front).  Photo: Nathan Causley’s 1976 Holden HX Sandman will be on display at this year’s Searoad Devonport Motorshow. 1982 Triumph Bonneville 750 Royal – Wedding Special  Only 120 of these bikes were ever built back in 1982 to commemorate the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana. These types of collectable bikes rarely find their way out of Great Britain, but this one managed to find its way all the way to Tassie! The bike is currently on show at the Australian National Museum and will bring to the Devonport Motor Show. New motorcycle category! There is still time to pre-enter your motorcycle into this year’s show to be in the running to win a trophy! The 2022 show has formed a partnership with the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club (VJMC) of Tasmania Inc to showcase the evolution of the motorcycle. The event is open to all bikes, regardless of age, brand or type, and trophies will be on offer! We’ve already got some pretty special entries locked in. While the VJMC has a love for Japanese motorcycles, owners of all bikes are welcome to join them. There are VJMC representatives across all parts of Tasmania. Aitkenhead Point is situated at the Northern end of Victoria Parade, stretching from the Vietnam Veterans memorial carpark, and west along the foreshore to Fenton Street. This site will provide us with ample space to spread out. The show will also extend to the grassed area in front of the Bass Strait Maritime Centre. COVIDSafe Planning Our team of volunteers have spent the past 12 months preparing our COVIDSafe plan, to ensure all our patrons stay safe while visiting the show. This will include some new innovations, such as zoning of areas to ensure social distancing parameters are met, and stringent cleaning protocols in all public areas. The Devonport Motor Show is the biggest motor show in Tasmania – you won’t see a better range of vehicles anywhere else in the State! AND – you enter the event knowing that your admission fee is going directly to charity – to improve the lives of others – so well done you!
